Breastfeeding Prep Consultation - Clinic
*Only available on Fridays*
Service Description
This in-person breastfeeding preparation consultation provides evidence-based information about breastfeeding, covering everything from physiological changes during pregnancy to milk supply regulation around the sixth week after birth. I aim to help families start breastfeeding smoothly, tailoring the support to their specific needs and goals. Antenatally, we'll discuss the fundamentals of breastfeeding, including milk production, breast care, and what to expect in the early days and weeks after birth. You'll learn how to tell if your baby is getting enough milk and understand the basics of positioning and latch, which we can practice with a doll and other props at the clinic. If agreed, I can also assess factors that may influence your breastfeeding journey, such as a history of breast surgery, hormonal imbalances (including diabetes), breast touch aversion, genetic conditions, a smaller baby for gestational age, or a planned caesarean birth. Identifying these early allows us to create a personalised plan to boost your confidence and help you navigate any potential challenges. Families who prepare antenatally are better equipped to handle common breastfeeding challenges and can quickly seek help if needed, increasing the chances of breastfeeding success. This service is valuable for both first-time parents and those who have faced difficulties before. There will also be time for questions, and I’m happy to adapt the sessions to specific goals like breastfeeding multiples, combination feeding, exclusive pumping, or inducing lactation without pregnancy. This consultation is ideally booked between 25 and 35 weeks of gestation.
