Breastfeeding consultations via videoconference is shown to be effective in the process of assessment and rehabilitation of lactation/breastfeeding process, which includes at least the lactating parent, the baby and the feeding. How does it work? ​Relevant information is collected via pre-consultation questionnaire and interview during the consultation in order to understand the current challenges the family is facing in their feeding journey. Virtual consultations require some adaptations. I will provide you with some suggestions when you book your appointment in order to improve the experience, and additional images or videos may be requested to complement the clinical assessment. Positioning, latch and breastfeeding techniques suggestions are demonstrated using teaching tools such as dolls, breast models, videos, figures, etc - I feel like a virtual coach when helping families to improve positioning remotely - and it works brilliantly. Instructions on why and how to use other feeding equipment (e.g. syringes, tubes, nipple shields, pump parts, etc) will be offered where necessary. ​Based on clinical symptoms and hypotheses, an individual care or rehabilitation plan will be set up, taking into account the family's goals and individual needs. A 30-minute follow-up appointment within 1-2 weeks is included in this service to finalise assessment when required and to review the care plan and progress. This one is booked directly at the consultation. There will be opportunity for any questions you may have regarding milk supply, breast health, feedings, and baby growth.
